Fire Starters Recipe

November 6th, 2009

Seen we still use a fireplace and that once a year camping trip, here is a easy to make item to help get that fire going to roast marshmellows or until you have some coals enough to get the wood going. Enjoy!

You need Cotton Balls (Large is best) and Petroleum Jelly or Wax

Roll the cotton balls individually in petroleum jelly and place in an airtight container. When you get ready to use, pull the cotton ball apart to were you can get to the cotton inside and light it. This will buy you 10 to 15 minutes flame time to get your fire stated.

If using wax, simply melt the wax (parrifin or beeswax) on low heat, dip cotton ball into the melted wax, set on waxpaper to dry and then place in an airtight container. Once again before using, take a stick or match and pierce a hole to allow you ability to pull some cotton fiber through the hole and form like a wick, light it and once again, you will have 10 to 15 minutes flame time to get your coals going.

I prefer the cotton balls in wax and they are faster to make with a lot less mess too. Any questions, let me know or google in "fire starter recipe".

Ok so after many months of hard work, drywall, spackle, insulation, paint and money my front porch with an laundry off of it is almost done. Why almost? Well we still need to put the trim up around the window in the laundry room but here's so pictures to show the progress. I love it and the sage green looks great! The one picture with the boards is actually the original house siding that was covered up my the previous owners. We sanded, spackled and painted these. We still have the floors to work on but so far so good.

Who says your bathroom can't look inviting in brown? I mean heck I have tons of beige/brown in my newly revamped bathroom and I love it!

We purchased the vanity, sink and medicine chest from some lady on Craigslist for $50 (including the faucet and toilet too!) the wood was painted a pastel green but not the green I like so I painted in white and waala! Of course, I added my primitive touches too!
